The Bell Witch Haunting ~ Movie Review

I gave this movie 3 stars but for the movie only...It was a decent movie.  It is listed as a horror, but I didn't find it very scary but that might just be my jaded mind that has seen a lot of horror movies.  The story was okay in and of itself but - as someone who lives in Tennessee - I can tell you a few things:

~ While it is sometimes warm in January - it is nowhere near swimming weather in an outdoor pool.

~ There are no palm trees in Tennessee either.

~ There only seems to be one policeman in the town of Adams - and he is the most unlucky policeman ever to have to respond to all of these strange calls night after night.

If you want me to believe this movie was based in TN - please make sure to edit out the palm trees and have your party at a bowling alley or a skating rink instead of a pool party in January.

2014 SAG Awards ~ A Fashion Review

I actually missed this award show - oops!  Thankfully, I was able to catch up on all the fashion online.  Here are the top 5 best and worst dressed - in my opinion:

The Worst Dressed

#5  Personally, I love this dress...from the knees up.  I think this dress fits so much better than her Globes dress and I think the embellishment is really beautiful but the fold under her knees is hideous.   I'm not sure what is going on there.  Also, I've got to slam her shoe choice.  I'm sorry.  I know they're probably more comfortable - and I know that they're Christian Louboutin - but that's no excuse for sandals on the red carpet.

#4  The color on this gown is beautiful but the bib reminds me of those plastic bibs that the seafood restaurants hand out so you don't get lobster or crab juices on your clothes.  Without that - this could have been so much better.

#3  This gown just has way too much going on for me to like this.  Carolina Herrera is usually known for the more classic styles - so this is just confusing for me.

#2  No.  Just no.  Too short.  Too tight.  Not SAG Awards worthy.  Grammy's?  Maybe - SAG's - Never.  Ugh...

Mariah Carey in St. Laurent

#1  The fact that I can't find a designer listed anywhere for this dress should be - as my dad loves to say - a clue.  Unless this dress is made by your BFF who has just found out he/she has a month to live and her dream is to have one of her creations worn on TV - you should never ever wear something that looks like this.  Especially to an award show.  Ever.

The Best Dressed

#5  Beautiful.  Polished.  Gorgeous.  She doesn't go to a lot of red carpet events any more and is relishing in her mommy role (love).  But when she dresses up like this - it reminds us of how beautiful she is.

Jennifer Garner in Max Mara

#4  I liked her Globes dress.  A lot of people didn't.  They thought it was boring or ugly or too similar to her Oscar dress from last year.  Any way...she totally went in a different direction with this gown and it is fabulous!

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior

#3  This is just beautiful.  Really ethereal and soft.  I really like this.

Hannah Simone in Marchesa

#2  She hit another home run with this gown.  Once again, the color is amazing on her skin.  The turquoise really pops.  Absolutely gorgeous!!

#1  This is the type of gown I was waiting for at the Globes last week.  One that just took my breath away.  This one did that.  Some are saying too bridal - but I don't think so.  Just stunning from head to toe.

2014 Golden Globes - A Fashion Review

I have had a lot of fun reviewing movies lately but I thought I could try my hand at a fashion review as well.  I love to watch the award shows - but I must admit, I mostly watch for the dresses.

I must say - the 2014 Golden Globes was very underwhelming.  No one really blew me away.  There were some gorgeous dresses - but nothing gave me that "WOW!" that I was waiting for.

So, in reverse order...here is my top 5 worst dressed:

#5

Berenice Bejo
Wearing Giambattista Valli

This was just too much for me.  The rose detailing
on the hips and shoulders added to her frame in
an unflattering way.  Also, I thought the top part
of the gown looked more like a wrinkled dress shirt .

#4
Emma Thompson
Wearing Lanvin

Too tight!!  The hair-do is not helping but the tightness of her skirt
is just awkward!  She can do so much better.

#3
Sandra Bullock
Wearing Prabal Gurung

Now...don't get me wrong.  I love Sandra Bullock!  And, she has been killing it lately on her Gravity tour.  This however, is not good.  The pink and blue color blocks just do not work with this dress...at all.  But, her hair and make-up are flawless!
 #2
Paula Patton
Wearing Stephane Rolland Couture

Just no.  The white "thing" growing out of her shoulder is just too
too much.  It's WAY too big and just too tissue looking to be glamorous.

#1
Catilin Fitzgerald
Wearing Emelia Wickstead

This is just bad.  The shoes are at least interesting but
I still don't like them.  The skirt bells out weirdly and the high neck
on the top is aging.  The hair is quite fried looking as well.
She definitely needs a do-over.

On to the fun part...the best dressed!

#5
Monica Potter
Wearing Romona Keveza

Gorgeous!  She is glowing.  Some sites slammed this dress as too boring but I think she looks beautiful.  Her hair and make-up are just as perfect.
 #4
Kerry Washington
Wearing Balenciaga

Pregnancy perfection!

 #3
Kate Beckinsale
Wearing Zuhair Murad

Unbelievable!  She definitely knows what looks great on her body.
She rarely makes a misstep.  Radiant!

#2
Margot Robbie
Wearing Gucci

The emerald detailing in the dress - along with the emerald shoes is just gorgeous!  I might have added a bracelet - but that is it.  She looks amazing.
 #1
Lupita Nyong'o
Wearing Ralph Lauren

Classic Ralph Lauren.  Simple yet perfect.  The color just pops against her skin and she is radiant and confident!

And finally...a little lesson on the color yellow...

                            The Right Way

The Wrong Way

Just as an after-thought just in case you thought I had missed out big time by not including Sofia Vergara on the best dressed list.  Yes - she looks gorgeous.  Yes - the dress fits her perfectly.  Yes - she looks almost exactly the same as every other red carpet event.
Strapless - check
Hair loose and flowing - check

Maybe something just different next time??
Sofia Vergara
Wearing Zac Posen

Review:::Dead In The Water, Twixt, The Cottage

Dead in the Water (2002)

I so wish Netflix had an "It was OK" rating.  I didn't necessarily not like it (2 stars) - but I didn't like it either (3 stars).  So...here I can give it 2 1/2 stars.  The twist at the end redeemed it some.  The characters were pretty wooden and the dialogue seemed forced.  I was expecting a little more from Henry Thomas (E.T.)  Definitely not his best role.

The Cottage (2012)

I am a big David Arquette fan so this is almost painful to write...but this was not good.  It was slow and the characters were wooden and very two-dimensional.  I felt the whole cult part was not explained efficiently as were the roles of the daughters.  It was just lacking.  There just seemed to be sections missing from the plot.  I can see where they were going - I just don't think they got there.

Twixt (2011)

Not bad.  It definitely isn't what you expect from a Francis Ford Coppola movie.  The Godfather this isn't.  Very low budget but Val Kilmer's impressions were hilarious during his writing scene.  I actually re-winded and watched that part again.  Bruce Dern was typically manic - but that was ok.  It worked here.

Super Bowl Sunday - 15 Hottest Guys of the NFL

On this Super Bowl Sunday, Jordan, my now 15 year old daughter, thought we needed a new "Hot Guys List".  She has already been working on a list for 2013, but we felt, because of the Super Bowl, this one should be NFL based.

Before you get to the end...I will say that # 1 is the only one we agreed on.  There was much bartering and discussion over the rest of the list.  Numbers 2 and 3 were where most of the disagreement went.  I was nice and let her pick the # 2.
